Meta: On this blog
Content
- I have oftentimes found it difficult to post because I wanted the content to be sharpened, incorporating all perspectives. I have a new perspective, which is that it can be valuable to post things even though they are not perfect. I lower the barrier to posting, and will therefore allow myself more frequent posting and quicker iteration.
- Like all things, most things I post will not be original. Even if I came to believe I posted something no one else had thought of before, I would most likely deceive myself. Of course – the efficient market hypothesis is not a law and it is possible to beat the market. In my case, I hope this blog can signal boost great content and provide a higher signal than the average of the rest of the blogs on the internet – thus raising the average value.
This blog in a Cntext
- I aim to place this blog in the immediate context of aspiring rationality, quantified self, effective altruism, modern scientific progress, post-modernity
- More specific inspiration is the general rationality blogosphere, including gwern.net, Astral Codex Ten, LessWrong, and adjacent sources
- Of course, we must also recognize that all these ideas are steeped in a larger Western movement of enlightenment
Personal context
From Who am I?
- I studied natural science, with a specialisation in mathematics and natural science at an elite high school in Sweden
- I try to keep my identity small and not tie my identity to any belief system, because then we risk trying to defend our belief-as-identity rather than relentlessly searching for truth. Though, I’m aware of the counterpoint related to projection. Therefore, to defuse confusion you can consider me an effective altruist, aspiring rationalist, transhumanist, philosopher, philomath, non-naive utilitarian, long-termist, or Grahamian hacker
- I’m interested in philosophy, especially post-modern, anti post-modern (i.e. Baudrillard), and Nietzschean philosophy
